school students will create handmade maps that will be geographically accurate
as well as visually appealing. Each map will be a unique work of art. Students
will also be introduced to the art and culture of the region we are mapping. The
spring session will focus on the continent of North America. We will be creating
art inspired by early American artists, Audubon (nature sketches), Currier (print
making) as well as studying the work of various folk art painters.

Explore ink and watercolor by learning fun
and simple Chinese painting techniques for landscapes, plants and flowers. Learn
some basic strokes of Japanese sumi-e painting to create fish, birds, and bamboo.
Combine the skills you've learned to create your own original artwork. Practice
writing elegant Chinese characters and decorate a scroll or a rock. You'll be
amazed at the terrific results you achieve in this class.

this class you will develop your ideas, plans and drawings for your fantasy tree
house. We will take inspiration from fabulous tree house architecture and other
interesting architecture from around the world. One class period will be held
at the community tree house at Oakledge Park in Burlington. Each student will
spend several class periods building a model of his/her dream tree house.

Paint
pet portraits and participate in a unique fundraising event in partnership with
the Humane Society of Chittenden County. There will be an art auction at the Humane
Society featuring original art painted by the children in this class. Students
will paint 2 pet portraits in acrylic on large sized canvases. Select one painting
to take home and the second painting will be donated for the auction. (100% of
the auction proceeds will go to support the work done on behalf of the animals
at the Humane Society.)
