Kids Summer Art Camps 2012
Camp sizes are limited and most
fill quickly so register early. If for any reason a particular
camp does not fill, you will be notified and a full refund
will be given.

and sent in an emergency form before you register through

"Print Form" at the bottom of the page and you
will have a typed version of our form to send with your
check to the studio.
Aftercare
Aftercare will be provided from 3:00 to 5:30 p.m., Monday
through Thursday for each of our summer camps. The cost
of aftercare is $15.00 per day or $60 for all four days.
Since our camp receptions are on Fridays at 3:00 p.m., we
will not be providing extended aftercare on Fridays.

IMPORTANT:
When you register for Art in the Park, you will
buy a punch card with 6 potential visits. You choose
what dates work best with your schedule and simply
punch your card when you attend.
Looking for a fun summer activity for you and your
child? This class is designed for children to attend
with a participating adult. We will explore art
through a wide variety of activities such as watercolor,
printmaking, collage, sculpture and much more. Each
class session will have several engaging art and
craft activities. Many activities will allow you
to take home quality projects for gift giving or
to display in your home. (i.e. hand painted cloth
shopping bags, printed photo frames, usable musical
instruments, etc.) Adults are welcome and encouraged
to make their own art along with their preschooler.
Older siblings can also attend and participate.

Travel back in time to immerse yourself in the culture
of ancient Egypt. This week we'll create a wonderful
array of Egyptian inspired art. Make an elaborate painting
on real papyrus, write in Hieroglyphics on stone or
slate, and create a cartouche. Make a headdress or mask
as well as a hand-painted tunic inspired by one of the
ancient Egyptian gods. You can also complete your costume
with a collar and an amulet. |

& re-make clothing into a fabulous outfit that you
will model. Learn to sew on a sewing machine. Compile

& knowledge. Our week will end with a runway fashion

design enthusiasts. Design and construct your own
original fashions to model on the runway. As a Level
II fashion student you will have the opportunity to
build upon your design and sewing skills and to stretch
your abilities. Learn many new sewing tips and techniques.
Work with patterns or learn to make your own pattern
pieces. Learn about styling and accessorizing your
outfit. Guest speakers from the fashion industry will
visit to share their expertise. Note: We welcome both
boys and girls to this fun fashion week.

In this camp you will develop your
ideas, plans and drawings for your fantasy tree house.
We will take inspiration from fabulous tree house
architecture and other interesting architecture from
around the world. You will be able to complete a small
model tree house in great detail. Focus on both the
exterior and interior. Tree houses can be space age
and futuristic, or natural like a house for a garden
fairy. What features will your tree house have? Perhaps
you'll design a moat, a swing, stained glass windows,
an elevator, a moon roof? Your imagination can go
wild in this terrific hands-on camp.

Would you like to learn to draw more realistically?
Or are you interested in perfecting a comic book style?
This class will help you master the basics. You will
have the opportunity to draw from photos and from
life. No matter what subject matter you choose you
will be able to practice techniques that will greatly
improve your drawing skill level. Learn to make your
drawings look three-dimensional, acquire shading techniques,
learn proportion & perspective skills, and more.
You will complete several finished pieces ready for
displaying on your wall, along with dozens of other
sketches and drawings in your sketchbook.
Please note: Camp fee includes sketchbook, pencil
set, pen set and other drawing accessories.

Let food presentation become your
art form in this fun and creative hands-on camp. You
will learn to make adorable, artsy foods, like edible
landscapes and yummy cartoon characters. Be inspired
by Japanese bento box art and get dozens of ideas
for packing exciting lunches and making fun meals
for your family. Learn to create several delicious
and healthy recipes. Make visually interesting foods
such as "little piggy bread," "dessert
jewelry," and "crazy face sandwiches."
You will use decorating tools to make creative cupcakes
and cookies. You will also learn about table settings
and napkin folding and much more. You will leave this
camp with lots of great ideas and skills, along with
a personalized cookbook.

If you are funny, creative and love to perform, you
will enjoy this camp. Invent crazy products and come
up with persuasive television commercials to sell them.
You will also work together on a number of drama games,
improv games and spoofs, for a super-fun week of sheer
silliness. You will write your own original material
to be performed by you as a solo performer, or as part
of a group ensemble. Learn to cultivate your funny bone
and develop your personal strengths to connect with
the audience. We will present a comedy show at the conclusion
of this camp. |

If you love all kinds of pets you
will love this class. We will create acrylic portraits
on canvas of our pets or ourselves with our family
pets (or fantasy pets). We'll make cuddly, soft stuffed
toys depicting cats, dogs and other favorite animals.
In addition each of us will create animals ears so
we can dress up pretending to be an animal in a pet
shop. Together we'll write a skit and come up with
songs to sing in front of friends and family at our
reception.

Spend a week of enchantment creating
beautiful faerie houses worthy of even the most discriminating
fairies. Make little furniture, and accessories for
your house. Then fill it with a tiny faerie family.
Create a faerie painting. Transform yourself into
a faerie by making your own wings, skirt, wand and
crown. Help turn the art studio into a magical wonderland.
Our week concludes with a faerie tea party.

In this camp, we will explore
the art of Henri Matisse for our ideas and inspiration,
focusing on vivid colors and interesting patterns.
The colors Matisse used were so wild and bright that
an art critic called him a "wild beast."
You will complete two acrylic paintings on canvas
as well as a colorful collage from beautifully cut
papers, and a sun catcher with a stained glass effect.
In addition you'll create a figure in motion sculpture
and participate in a large mural project.

Come along on a safari to the jungles
of your imagination. Inspired by the art of Henri
Rousseau you will create a fantasy "jungle painting"
complete with lions, tigers, tropical birds or monkeys.
Make jungle inspired crafts such as puppets and masks.
Learn fun songs from the movie, "Jungle Book"
and perform them along with a short skit for parents
at the conclusion of the week.

Explore the exciting possibilities of sculpting with
clay and other interesting materials. You will learn
the basics of hand building with clay and will make
several cool and useful projects such as a mask, an
animal sculpture or a structure such as a castle,
gnome home or birdhouse. Paint your own pottery designs
on bisqueware. Your pieces will be glazed and fired
in a kiln. In addition you will have the opportunity
to experiment creating sculptures with other interesting
materials such as fabric, wood, wire or glass. Note:
Clay pieces to be picked up at a later date.

If you think all artists sit still
and paint for hours on end . . . you are mistaken.
In this exciting camp you will learn to use your body
in motion and well as interesting objects to create
active and energetic artwork. You will observe the
art of famous abstract expressionist artists such
as Jackson Pollack and young emerging action painters
such as Jarrett Leone and Amy Shackelton. Then, we'll
be off to the races to create our own action paintings.
You will be flinging, dripping, pouring, and splattering
in ways you've never previously considered. We'll
use squirt bottles, tennis shoe bottoms and tire tracks
to create interesting visual patterns and completed
works of art worthy of hanging in your personal modern
art museum.

Learn about the famous Mexican artist couple Frida
Kahlo and Diego Rivera while creating several original
pieces of art inspired by their work. Your self-portrait
painting will be wildly bright and vibrant using Frieda's
color palette. Maybe you'll even pose as she did,
with parrots or monkeys on your shoulders. Discover
Diego's giant murals, and learn how artists often
convey social and political messages. We will paint
two paintings on canvas along with a number of three-dimensional
projects inspired by pre-Columbian and Mexican folk
art.

Sculpt your cast of characters out
of colorful clay and come up with an interesting story
line. Create backgrounds and mini-sets. Then learn
to use computer software to create exciting stop-action,
animated mini-movies. You can add music or sound effects
to your movie. Final movies will be shared with family
and friends at our reception. Each student will receive
a DVD containing the movies created in the camp.

the art and culture of a different country. You will
listen to music of the region, read folk tales and
create amazing art. We'll use a wide variety of art
materials to create five fabulous keep-sake art pieces.
Our itinerary includes: Mexico (Folk Art Painting
on a ceramic plate), New Zealand (Maori designs on
gourds), China (3-D Mini Chinese Dragons), Mali, West
Africa (mud cloth painting), and India (Colorful Rangoli
designs on tile). Join us for this fun-filled and
educational adventure.

Art wizards will travel to a magical
realm where dragons and other mythical creatures roam.
Learn to draw, paint and sculpt magical creatures.
Create a spell book to direct your powers. We will
learn about the history of dragons and other mythical
creatures and see examples how they were drawn throughout
the world. Each student will create a painting on
canvas along with several additional pieces of art
using a variety of quality materials.
