Fall 2009 Class Schedule
The following classes are open to adults,
as well as teens, ages 15 and up. Class sizes are limited
and most fill quickly so register early. If for any reason
a particular class does not fill, you will be notified and
a full refund will be given.
Individualized

If you are passionate about exploring your art in depth, this
class will provide you with studio time and support. You will
focus on a particular category of art of your choice, select
your materials, and produce several quality pieces. You'll
write an artist's statement and have the opportunity to show
your work in Davis Studio or another public venue.
Note: This is an-going class, students are encouraged
(though not required) to take more than one six week session
throughout the year in order to develop a body of work.

Clay
Studio
7 week class
Date: Mondays, Oct. 5, 12, 19, 26, Nov. 2, 9, 16
Time: 6:30 – 8:30 p.m.

Cost: $200
Explore the exciting possibilities of sculpting with clay.
You will learn the fundamentals of hand building with clay,
such as slab building and pinch pots. Learn how to use textures
and carving techniques to enhance your original pieces. You
will make beautiful and functional pieces such as a tray/platter
or a one of a kind plate or bowl. You will learn how to glaze
your pieces which will then be fired in a kiln. Each piece
will be your own unique design and creation. Seven week class,
completed work to be picked up at a later date after fired.

Mosaic
Studio

Discover the art of making mosaics using brightly colored
glass and tile tesserae (small bits) arranged in beautiful
patterns and designs. Bring your own special stones, buttons,
sea glass or shells to embellish projects or choose from our
eclectic collection to make unusual and beautiful pieces for
home and garden.

Painting/Open
Studio
6 week class
If you have always wanted to try painting or if you've painted
in the past but you're feeling "rusty" - this is a great class
for you. Explore and create in a relaxed environment. Complete
beginners are encouraged to attend. Paint with either acrylic
or watercolor. Select subjects of your choice & receive individualized
technique tips, encouragement & support to begin your painting
adventure. One large canvas or two smaller canvases as well
as all paint and materials are included in the cost of this
class.

Right
Brain Drawing
6 week class

Uncover your hidden ability to draw. Drawing is a skill that
can be learned even if you don’t think you are a “born artist.”
Through a series of drawing exercises you will learn to see
and draw more accurately. Learn the perceptual skills needed
for more realistic drawing. During the course of the 7 weeks
you will progress from symbolic drawing to actually being
able to draw what you see. This course will boost your creativity
and confidence.

Write and Illustrate a Children's Book
7 week class

Do you have an idea for a children's book? How about a family
story you wish to record as a gift for your children or grandchildren?
In this class you will be supported in bringing your book
to completion. You will be offered support and editing feedback
on your text. Then, even if you feel you don't have strong
art skills, we will help you find ways to "illustrate"your
manuscript. You will be able to choose from a wide variety
of art materials for your book, (acrylic, watercolor, pastels,
pen & ink, printmaking, paper or fabric collage, etc.) Your
original book will be color-copied and bound with beautiful
papers or fabrics and hand stitching.
Seven week class, published books to be picked up at a later
date - to be announced.

"Make
Friends" with Your Sewing Machine
6 week class
Date: Wednesday, Oct. 7, 14, 21, 28, Nov. 4, 11
Time: 6:30 - 8:30 p.m.

Learn how to use a sewing machine while making several fun
projects. (You can use one of our machines, or bring in your
own). You will learn sewing machine basics like how to thread
the machine, fill a bobbin, etc. You will also learn to put
in a zipper, make buttonholes, and more. We will make a variety
of projects while we learn sewing techniques. Our projects
will include: a recycled bag for shopping, a deconstructed
t-shirt, a wallet, and a table place setting. Once you’ve
completed this class you will have developed the necessary
skills for endless sewing adventures.

Do you need extra time and help with a sewing project? Do
you want to improve your basic sewing skills? Whether you
are sewing clothes, crafts, quilts, curtains, stuffed creatures
or whatever projects you have, artist Wylie Garcia is here
to help. Offering ideas and sewing advice, she will help
you finish (or start) those long overdue projects that keep
getting put off for later. Bring your own fabric and ideas
and Wylie will help you achieve your desired results. We will
have some fabrics on hand for certain beginner projects if
you’re not sure where to begin.
Note: We provide each student with a sewing machine
for use during this class, however you are welcome to bring
yours from home if you prefer.

Group

Open to all artists in all media, bring your art to Davis
Studio for a critique with peers. This is a safe, open, and
encouraging session to work out ideas, talk about art, and
gather information. It is an open critique, all are welcome,
no charge. Participants are encouraged to select only one
or two pieces of art to bring to the critique. Please RSVP

Sweater
Remix

Hate to throw out that old friend? Take a sweater with holes
or one that is stained or doesn't fit and give it a new purpose.
Scarves, fingerless gloves, purses and pillows are just a
few ideas to recreate your own sweater redo! You’ll never
look at an old sweater the same way again. You bring your
sweaters – we will provide all other materials.

Your Own Designer Jeans
