Workshops:
Spring 2011 Class Schedule

these classes, the following are listed so you can get a
feel for what we offer. Be sure to sign up for our newsletter
(up there in the top right corner of the page) to find out
when registration opens each season.
Learn tricks and tips for using a wide variety of interesting
materials to create unique and exciting paintings. In this
mixed media class you will have the opportunity to explore
working with materials such as watercolor, ink, acrylic,
pastels, fabric, tissue paper and much more. Find out how
to combine materials for surprising and wonderful results
in your artwork.
If you are passionate about exploring your art in depth,
this class will provide you with studio time and support.
You will focus on a particular category of art of your choice,
select your materials, and produce several quality pieces.
You'll write an artist's statement and have the opportunity
to show your work in Davis Studio or another public venue.
Six week class (no reception, but invited to display work
at Art Hop, in September) Note: This is an-going class.
Students are encouraged (though not required) to take more
than one, six-week session throughout the year in order
to develop a body of work.
Snip and tuck your way to a
more youthful and updated wardrobe. Learn to how to identify
unappreciated treasures in your own closet and give them a
new lease on life. In this class you will be guided in transforming
these pieces into something you will wear again and again.
Claudia will teach you an array of useful and beautiful techniques
such as printing, appliquéing, embroidering, ruching and more,
to create fun and fabulous clothes that you will adore. Become
your own personal fashion designer and give your wardrobe
a lift!
Explore the exciting possibilities
of sculpting with clay. You will learn the fundamentals of
hand building with clay, such as slab building and pinch pots.
Learn how to use textures and carving techniques to enhance
your original pieces. You will make beautiful and functional
pieces such as platters or one-of-a-kind plates or bowls.
You will learn how to glaze your pieces with colorful painted
designs. All pieces will be fired in a kiln. Completed work
to be picked up at a later date after fired.
Mirror, mirror, on the wall - your mirror will be the coolest
one of all. Learn how to create beautiful mosaic patterns
and how to grout and set your masterpiece. Choose from our
collection of glass and ceramic tile, stained glass, pebbles
and ephemera to create an unusual mosaic art piece made from
recycled materials. We provide materials, but you may want
to bring in your costume jewelry or other fun items to add
some personalization and sparkle to this one of a kind original
art piece.
Turn a plain wooden chair into a whimsical
piece of art. Your creation will make a great conversation
piece and a fun accent for your home. Using the chair as your
canvas you will learn about materials and decorative painting
techniques that can be used on any wooden piece of furniture.
Bring in a sturdy wooden chair that you already have, (or
purchase one for $20 from our selection).
Make a whimsical focal point for your
garden using colorful glass and ceramic tile. Tucked among
ferns in a woodland garden or in a sunny mixed border, a birdbath
welcomes wildlife during hot summer weather and adds the element
of water to a design scheme. Bring along bits of broken plates
or extra tile, favorite pebbles, sea glass or other ephemera
to personalize your piece, or chose from our extensive collection
You will be surprised how simple it
is to achieve amazing results immediately, working with glass
we fire in a kiln. We will learn to cut sheets of glass and
explore various techniques to create a number of flat glass
projects in addition to draping and slumping into molds to
form bowls. Come with your sketches or we will explore ideas
here. There will be discussion of design principles, kiln
and tool use.
If you have always wanted to try painting
or if you've painted in the past but you're feeling "rusty"
- this is a great class for you. Explore and create in a relaxed
environment. Complete beginners are encouraged to attend.
Paint with either acrylic or watercolor. Select subjects of
your choice & receive individualized technique tips, encouragement
& support to begin your painting adventure. Up to three canvases
as well as all paint and materials are included in the cost
of this class.
This workshop provides you with a fabulous
way get your creative juices flowing through a fun and playful
experience. The focus will be on creating expressive forms
that evolve intuitively. Each doll will be completely unique.
You will learn a variety of possible techniques for bringing
your creations to life. Make two or three simple dolls to
get started and then spend the remainder of the class sessions
on one elaborate creation. All materials are supplied, but
we encourage you to bring a few treasures of your own to personalize
your doll (fabric, stone, wood, beads, buttons, found objects,
etc.). No sewing or previous art experience necessary, just
a playful attitude. |
